Case summary
Summer 2007, the outskirts of Tokyo. You are Haruka Saeki, just moved into Room 204 of Wakaba-so, an old wooden apartment building that is absurdly cheap. On moving night, a soaking-wet cloth doll drops from the cupboard above the closet: long black hair, red thread wound round and round its body, its belly stuffed with rice and someone else's fingernails.
At three the next morning the television switches itself on. It is unplugged, yet the screen is full of static, and the doll sits in front of it with its back to you. A trail of small wet handprints runs along the wall to the bathroom.
The notebook the last tenant left behind is missing pages. Put the torn pages back and you finally understand: a year ago, in this very room, she began a game of Hide and Seek Alone — and the game never ended.
Hide and Seek Alone is a 30-minute eerie story puzzle game: in an old Heisei-era apartment you open the boxes, mix the salt water, kill the lights and hide in the closet with your own hands, step by step finding out who else is still hiding in this room. Free, and it plays right in your browser.
